CMA CGM Launches New Barge Corridor Linking Northern Vietnam to Major U.S. Ports

A faster, greener, and cost-effective transport route strengthens Vietnam-U.S. trade as manufacturing continues to expand across Northern Vietnam.

Haiphong, Vietnam, 28 November 2025 – CMA CGM has launched a new barge service connecting the growing manufacturing hub of Que Vo in Northern Vietnam to the Port of Haiphong, unlocking a direct, efficient pathway for cargo heading to major ports across the United States.

The new Que Vo–Haiphong corridor links key industrial zones such as Bac Ninh, Hanoi, Phu Tho, and nearby regions to both U.S. East and West Coast gateways. This service aims to streamline supply chains, improve transit times, and offer a sustainable alternative to traditional inland trucking.

According to CMA CGM, the new barge connection is integrated with three core U.S. services from Haiphong:

• Eagle Express (EX1) is sailing to Los Angeles in just 19 days
• CBX servicing the U.S. East Coast
• Pearl connecting to the U.S. West Coast

The barge moves both export and import cargo twice a week, with a transit time of only two days between Que Vo and Haiphong. This makes the route faster, more reliable, and less carbon-intensive, offering shippers a stronger logistics option as demand for Vietnamese goods continues to rise.

Recent U.S. import data shows that Vietnam remains one of the fastest-expanding origins, with container imports up nearly 25% year-over-year by late summer 2025. This surge is partly driven by ongoing manufacturing shifts from China to Southeast Asia.

CMA CGM has also been investing in sustainable inland transport across Vietnam. Earlier this year, the company introduced an electric container barge serving Nike’s production sites and the Cai Mep port, signaling a broader commitment to low-emission logistics.

With the new barge service, CMA CGM aims to strengthen Vietnam-U.S. trade flows, support regional manufacturers, and improve end-to-end supply chain efficiency for global brands.
